Muscle Cars
Starting my mid-life crisis and want to get a muscle car. Torn between a Mustang, a Charger and a Camaro.

Anybody had one of these/tips/advise?

Re: Muscle Cars
I quite like Plymouths. The Barracuda, Belvedere and GTX look well smart. But if it was a choice of those three, it'd be the Mustang.

I have been toying with this, I would love a first generation Camaro.

One day.

Re: Muscle Cars
I've had yank muscle, customs & hot rods for 30 years. Most people buy on a whim, realize that these cars need a lot of upkeep, care and attention, that they don't like the British weather, don't drive like a Mondeo or whatever then sell at a loss. On the other side - cheap insurance, no tax or mot (if over certain age), loads of fun to drive especially with no modern driver aids etc. Be prepared to spend long after you've purchased the car. Buy pre-1973 with small block engines and as much history & paperwork as possible. Good luck!

I've had a 1984 SL 500 107 for four years now I only do a couple of hundred miles a year and is garaged.
75000 on the clock and in four years it's almost doubled in value.

Re: Muscle Cars
Ted, do you need a 5 litre car cos of the weight of all the sun tan lotion you have to put on your shiny head?

Mrs had a Chevy Monza when I met her. I bought a Grand Cherokee Ltd 4.0L, about the closest I could get.

Worked with a bloke, fanatic who used to race hotrods at santa pod raceway. I also had a mate who fitted a V8 to an escort van, he used to pull up at the traffic lights for a burn up with anyone, most couldn't work out how they were left for dust.

I also remember approx 35yrs ago seeing a V12 Rolls Royce Merlin engine that someone had fitted to an extended mini with front seats moved to the back.

Re: Muscle Cars
The mate with the V8 van also had a penchant for American cars drove a 1970's Ford Thunderbird.

Re: Muscle Cars
Are you talking about the new ones or vintage?

I've driven all of the ones you mention, I would go for the Challenger Hemi if I were you. Looks the best and by far the most fun.

Re: Muscle Cars
If new ones then mustang convertible

No better sounding engine than an American V8

Depending on budget etc and assuming it won't be a daily driver consider an AC Cobra rep , they won't deprecate as much

Not a Muscle car but for me it has to be the Buick Roadmaster 1949-1953 Model...

Re: Muscle Cars
Had a Cobra, almost unusable in anything other than blazing sunshine. Also, with Jag running gear, tend to be overbraked. I couldn't get enough of the noise though.
